"Lettered Chin" Die Clash (Not on slab)

This satiny, choice mint state piece is original and toned mauve gold over very clean surfaces. A little striking softness probably precluded a select MS grade. Then again, the dies had to be warped due to extreme die clashing, most visible on the obverse. The so-called "Lettered Chin" or sometimes the "Whiskers" variety occurred when the dies clashed together and the letters of EPU on the reverse were stamped on the obverse die field, under the chin. We have seen these on occasion, but this my be the strongest example we've come across. Very interesting, but not in the Cherrypicker's Guide yet, so the grading services are not recognizing them on the holder.
